squirrel continued...

In my last post, I introduced you to the squirrel that got into my sewing room on Sunday.

She's still there.  Making demands.

After finishing the 9 blue stars, I needed to make 36 sets of flying geese.  So lay out all the stars and audition greys, as they will be the "bodies" of said geese.

What a mess.  Naughty squirrel.  But this photo helped cut a few that were too busy or pattern-y.  Some got to stay, though.  For interest.  Or humility.

I also had to cut enough blue squares for the 4-at-a-time no-waste method of making flying geese.  This chewed through a lot of blues.  And greys.  That's okay.  You can't tell anyways.

Pin, pin, pin...

This took forever.  The extra squares are just there for a prettier photo.  Or something.

Sew, sew, sew...
Cut, cut, cut...
Press, press, press...
Pin, pin, pin...
Cut, cut, cut...

Take a photo...

...of a GROSS of geese.

144 of these puppies geese.

Currently they're all pressed and I'm mid-way through trimming them.  That's where I'm headed next.

I have to get to take a 13-year-old niece shopping tomorrow (her Christmas present because she wouldn't tell anyone what she wanted, so now she gets to pick it out herself while being embarrassed by her crazy aunt Katie...and her friend who is coming along and is really like another niece because she's around all the time and that's okay...she'll get some stuff, too), so that will cut into my sewing time, but family is important.  I mean, who are the best choices to give all these quilts I make to if not family?  So I gotta butter them up and make them think that I have more in my brain that BLUE QUILTS, right?  So they'll appreciate the quilts I give them - they'll think I made time for the quilt I made for them when really I had no choice but to make it for the squirrels and screaming ideas in my head and/or sewing room.

But I would love to have this quilt be a top by the end of this weekend.  I'm pretty sure the laying out and figuring out where all the geese go (they're sewn in sets of 4 matching and used as sashing between the stars) will be an epic mess, but that's what design living room floors are for, right?  I'll try to remember to take photos.  There will probably be cat butts, Ann.

Off to the sewing room.  Before the hubby gets out of the shower and figures out where I've gone.  If I look really into it (or pretend not to hear him for the music plugs in my ears), he might not request me to join him in watching the idiot box television.  (Some stuff is good - not what he likes.)

Happy quilting,
Katie

I use the no waste method for FG also. I sympathize with you not wanting to watch programs that your hubby picks out. my DH drives me nuts with his switching channels, etc.

That's quite a stack of geese! The squirrel should be very happy! ---"Love"

I caught up on 3 posts and love all you've been doing, so productive. Love all the blue stars and fancy having a squirrel in your sewing room...or your head :)

Sorry, but I'm glad to hear that the 'squirrel' is still at your house. It's certainly not wanted/needed over/down here. I have enough to keep me busy without a squirrel 'bugging' me.
I don't think I've tried this version of flying geese... have tried a couple of others and I've seen others quilters DO this version, I've just never tried it myself. Maybe if I were to try it, I might ( MIGHT) like it.

"Giggle" I so understand about the programs picked by your DH. Mine too! I just have to walk away, and he always knows where I am hiding. All my "goals" are on hold this weekend, til I get a self-binding baby quilt finished for a old boss's new granddaughter. He is not old, but I am retired now. I made a small quilt for the first grandchild, how can I not gift this new little girl something? So off to the sewing room I will go , after my 2 mile walk with a friend.

This is going to be a lovely quilt! Those flying geese are a pain to make but they will look amazing in the quilt. Good luck chasing that squirrel away!

Those darn squirrels do keep things interesting. Enjoy your shopping. Maybe there will be so e nice design inspirations in the stores.

Those darned squirrels! They can sure lead you into some awesome quilts if you don't let them get away!

Off to remind myself what that no-waste method is...

Looking forward to seeing how your quilt comes together and more than a little jealous that you live close enough to your niece to go shopping with her!!

Great post, by the way. LOVE your sense of humor!

I always use the no waste method to make geese and modify patterns that don't use this method to make geese! Your stars look awesome!

Love the squirrel look. I have a very messy sewing room. Great blue stars and good luck with all the fly geese.

You have a wonderful pile of "geese"! Love all the blues! Hope the squirrel is satisfied by the end of the weekend and is happy with your quilt top! Wonder if the squirrel will go away or come up with another great project to work on. Silly squirrel. Can't wait to see the layout of all your hard work!

Lots of wonderful things happening in your sewing room. :) Enjoy your time with your niece!

As a representative of the quilt police, I must object to your use of the term squirrel. Terms such as that apply to beginning a new quilt at the same time that you are beginning a new quilt. Beginning a new quilt after finishing a lovely quilt top is called progress.

Respectfully,

Molly

Pesky squirrels! Productive squirrels though :) I can't wait to see how that gross of geese and the stars come together. I wasn't a fan of grey, but in the last year I have started to appreciate and use it more. Looking forward to seeing your blue/grey combo. Hope you enjoyed the time with your niece and almost-niece.
