a slow week

This past week my hubby was out of town at a training and I had high hopes of getting a lot of quilting done in his absence.  Instead I got a lot done around the house.

I did sew the base for the next Merry Merry Snowmen block and got all of the pieces for the applique cut and placed.  Yesterday I started sewing the pieces down while listening to football.

Lots more pieces to sew down, but I made a pretty good start.

He was due home Thursday night, so I needed to get the hexies sewn to the couch before he got home and could stop me.  That was a lot harder than I expected (and help from the fur-babies made it even harder) and I don't see a future in reupholstery for me, but it's done!

The hubby said he saw that I "uglied up the couch" when he returned, but he hasn't told me to take it off yet, so I think it's good.  And so far, so good with the cats not bothering it.  But now I've realized there are a few other corners that might need attention...

And today I decided I needed to take a bit of time and finish those Mandarin Express blocks.  It's only been since July when I started them, so it's about time...

I believe there are 63 blocks here, so a 9x7 layout will get them together, right?  I guess that's the next step, but it looks pretty green in this photo...greener than I expected, but green is okay.  Who knows how long this will take to get to the next step, but I'm not in any hurry...obviously...

The hubby is now sick - this is what happens when instead of mowing the lawn on your Friday off you spend the time with your year and a half old niece who has a cold - so I have the afternoon to myself.  Probably a good time to work a bit more on the snowman blocks, as the sewing machine makes enough noise to disrupt the hubby's sleep...

Happy quilting,
Katie

To me it looks like you accomplished quite a bit. The snowmen are so cute, I love snowmen of all kinds. I like the couch, it really looks good. In a few weeks, hubby won't even notice it. You did a lot on Mandarin Express, too. I can't wait to see how it finishes. Enjoy working on those snowmen!

I never would have thought of the hexies on the couch, but I do think they look good --- certainly much nicer than the kitty damage! Your Mandarin Express blocks will make a very cheerful quilt, and you'll have it together before you know it! But...get your priorities down right --- Christmas is coming soon, so I'm sure you know those snowmen require immediate attention! *wink* Have fun! ---"Love"

Well you've got a darn lot more than I achieved which was absolutely nothing. Working six days a week really cramps my style. I think your couch hexies are a terrific solution and look good too.

Looks like a good week with plenty of sewing. The snowmen are so cute. I like your couch. Did you use a curved needle? They make it easier (not easy, just less difficult).
Mandarin Express is getting there. I know you will get it intoa top in no time.
Hope the hubby feels better. Hope you do not catch the cold.

I think it's best to go ahead with an idea without letting the men know about it ahead of time. Especially when it's not a huge remodel. Hee Hee! Sounds like he'll adjust to the couch easily enough. The appliqué block will be so cute! Good luck on the Mandarine Express. It looks like a fun quilt.

It seems you did get some sewing in, if not as much as you would have liked. You get points for getting stuff done around the house too. I need to set my mind to that one of these days. I like the "uglied up" couch :) I looks way more pretty and cheerful than shredded fabric!
