It seems like I should have gotten more done this weekend, but with the concert Friday night, bowling with friends Saturday night and my mom down to baste a quilt on my longarm today (sorry I forgot photos), there's just been too much going on. (But it's been a FUN weekend - the weather has been great, too.)
My mom runs a quilt retreat two times a year. One of the guys who works at the camp where she holds it is getting married later this year and she asked retreaters to make a 12" blue and white block of their choice to make him a quilt. She was disappointed that fewer blocks than she'd hoped were sent, so I decided to help out. I've never met the guy, but this seemed like a perfect opportunity to try out the block and help out.
These sections went together surprisingly quickly, but then I had to hold my breath about getting all those points to match.
That last seam had a bit of a pucker, but I left it. It looks much worse in the photo because of the shadow, but I think it's pretty good considering it's my first go with this block. I still really like it and can see myself making more.
But a word to anyone wanting to make this: I had trouble getting the template to print. I thought something was wrong and gave up after waiting forever for it to print, closed the window and THEN my printer started working! I don't understand, but I'll take it.
This evening, I also made a little progress on the photo quilt:
I cut up 2 yards of fabric (24 9x11.5" pieces) and treated it with Bubble Jet Set 2000 - preparing it for photo printing. They need to air-dry, so I set this up in my sewing room to keep the cats out of it (they think this is a jungle gym and I often find sweaters left to dry on this wrestled into a ball on the floor!).
All the photos have been scanned, so they're ready for cropping and color adjustments and the freezer paper has been cut (and is smooshed under heavy things to get it to lie flat) and ready to iron onto the fabric when it's dry.
The fabrics have also been mom-approved and washed.
Definitely moving forward on this!
Now I just need to get busy on the owl quilt - that's going to be needed about the same time as this one and I've really fallen off the wagon on working on that.

The image of the sweaters in a ball on the floor made me smile. Those kitties sure help you out!
