change of plans

Earlier this week I was happily sewing along on the
Garden Variety quilt.

All sorts of pieces ready to go into rows and the rows into a top.  Even the stripey binding has been cut.  And a stack of "lost" corners challenging me to use them.

And then Thursday night I decided to sit down and design that MSU quilt I've been wanting to make for my niece.  It's been an idea in my head for a while now, but I kept putting it off because, well, I had to DESIGN it!

I showed it to the hubby and Friday afternoon I found myself at Hobby Lobby...

Dark green, white, a bit of black for accent and a print for borders.

Wash, dry, iron, refold.
Sleep.

Wrestle cats for unimpeded use of the "design floor."
Stand on furniture not meant to be stood on.
Hold camera flush with ceiling.
Hope for good photo.
(Thank goodness for digital cameras!)

I still need to add sashing rows and short pieces to make it all fit, but the majority of the work is done.

You can't see it well, but there is a 2-wide checkerboard on either side because I found out after I designed this that her bed is a double, not a twin.  And it will probably get at least one more border, but I'm not sure what it will be yet.

I think I need a nap now.

Happy quilting,
Katie

Well done! A very graphic design. Your niece is gonna love it! I have this strange picture in my head of you wrestling with the cats, LOL!

This is a lovely change of plans (not that the other wasn't lovely too, of course!). I have a couple of friends transplanted from Michigan who would absolutely love that quit.

Unique! You are a genius! She will love it! You DO deserve a nap, but if I know you at all, you will have it finished and quilted before I can find the table top in my sunroom! Great job! ---"Love"
