Beth is awesome!

I had a pretty blah day today.  I came home from work and changed clothes in preparation to go work out, but went out for the mail first.
And then my day changed.

There were not one, but TWO boxes in the mailbox, both from Beth.  Scratching my head at what on Earth she'd sent I went back inside and barely got the door shut before I opened them.

First (she'd numbered the boxes even!)...

Some fabric for dolly quilts and an absolutely adorable needle case.  I've been thinking about making one of these for myself, but haven't gotten around to it.  Yay!

And package #2...

You'll have to think back a bit to where I told you all I'm a microbiologist.  Beth remembered and then saw knitting patterns for microbes and decided to knit them for me.  I was giggling and smiling and my cats thought I'd lost it (which seems odd because they get excited over EMPTY boxes...).  There's a Salmonella, a Cholera, a Rhinovirus (common cold) and a Tuberculosis microbe.  They are FANTASTIC!  And accurate!  I'm going to take them to work to show off because the people there will get it.  (The hubby will give me even stranger looks than the cats...he doesn't get it.)

So THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Beth!
I don't think there are words to express how awesome these two boxes are.

As for who would design such a strange pattern, we science geeks are a little odd at times.  I made an E. coli cake for my boss' birthday one year.  It was chocolate, but cut into a "rod" shape (like three of the four microbes above), iced pink (because when you stain them with a common stain, they're pinkish-red), and had Twizzler pull-and-peel red licorice for flagella (the "tails" they use to move around).  He got it and loved it, especially since it was chocolate!  (The rest of our research group also liked the idea, but were much more enthusiastic about the chocolate cheesecake that just looked like cheesecake I brought this year.)  I forgot to take a picture, though...

Now I need to go do more important things.  Like shower since I decided this was way more important when I got home from working out...

Happy quilting,
Katie

PS  Has anyone else gotten the mailing from JoAnn's about the "Quilt Your Colors" quilt contest?  I'm considering it, but I need to go find out more about it...

Glad you got the packages today. I saw those microbes and instantly thought Katie! I was grinning a little the whole time I was knitting them. Glad they made you smile.

Oh my gosh! You gals are way too smart for this old lady! But I'm sure those "germs"(?) will be a treasure and quite a conversation piece for years to come! How neat they are! The fabric is great too! ---"Love"

Oh my gosh! I love the bacterium! Nice job Beth.

Your cake story reminds me of the time I tried to teach a high schooler the concept behind cell ion exchange using oreos, red vines and jelly beans.
