It's February, so I can safely start another dolly quilt. I've been having a ton of fun with these, which kinda suprized me. I thought I'd get sick of them, but I like having a small project that I can finish quickly...then I have to get back to the bigger ones...
Friday I pulled out books and patterns and colored pencils and fabric scraps to match my latest purple kitty-outfitted dolly and sketched and erased and colored and moved cats off my stuff and sat with my eyes squished closed, all looking for inspiration.
I had a desire to do something embroidered, so then I moved on to the computer with clip art. Boy are there a lot of COMPLICATED designs out there...what happened to line drawings? They're hard to find!
All that mess and what did I come up with?
The kitty faces are smiliar to a quilt you may remember I made for a little not-quite niece named Chloe. It hit me while I had my eyes squished closed in an exasperated moment...
None of this was in any book, pattern, etc. So I made all that mess for nothing. Well, I did figure out what I didn't want to make by looking at too-complicated patterns, clip art and embroidery patterns!
So I picked it all up, except the fabrics I planned to use and went to bed.
Sleeping on it didn't change my plan, so I drew out the kitty faces Saturday morning and was ready to embroider when my mom came over for a fun day. We shopped a little, ate a good lunch, laughed and had a good time. We even got a little sewing in.
I finished the top Saturday evening.

It doesn't match at all, but it's too cute. It's Kitty Cucumber, which I remember from being a kid. I found this fat quarter in some stuff my mom had gotten me a couple of years ago and I can't think of a better use. Unfortunately, it limited the size of the dolly quilt to about 17 inches square.
I will quilt it soon. I want purple thread, and JoAnn's has thread on sale next weekend, so it will get back burner for now. I'll work on the brown and pink quilt in the meantime.
I'll show the whole thing when it's done.
Today is the Superbowl. I plan to quilt. What about you?

Oh, I almost forgot. My mom and I went to the local library. My first trip to check out books (second trip total - I feel like a loser having lived here this long without having gone to the library, but in my defense, I work at a university, so I've been to A library since moving here!) and I got "Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts" and I'm inspired by a few of the projects. I want to make the elephant in there...

I love your kitty idea, it is so simple and works great! Can't wait to see the finished project. I think the kitty fabric on the back is fantastic. Even if it doesn't "match" the front, it is a very interesting fabric and works with the kittty theme. Both sides of the quilt will be great, like having two in one!
I will be watching the Superbowl and hand quilting at the same time. Pick & Choose is about 60% quilted. My husband likes the watch the games and I know very little about football. I ask silly questions about the rules and I learn a little. Mostly I just enjoy being with my husband while he enjoys the game.

I love that lovin' little smiling kitty face! Wish you had more of the kitty fabric; that would make a precious quilt for a little girl, as well for your doll quilt! I love going to the library, but I don't always make as much use of it as I should. Ours has a fair-sized quilting section too.
I will miss the first hour of the Superbowl when I go to church this evening, but that's okay; I'll still get enough football to suit me. I lost interest when the Cowboys didn't make it; but unfortunately, they didn't play well enough to qualify! *frown* ---"Love"
You came up with a really cute pattern for your doll quilt kitty. I know exactly what you mean about figuring out what you don't want from looking at lots of ideas. Works out though.
I love the library. I couldn't keep my kids supplied in books without it, unless I didn't mind eating Kraft Dinner every night. Plus there are all those quilty books I can sneak a peak at!
Yup, there will be quilting here too. I'm not much of a sports fan so my hubby will enjoy the game more without my bored presence and bewildered questions anyway :)

Our local library has a huge section of quilt books, and they get new ones all the time. My DD#2 has a rule that I can't check out more than I can carry by myself.
I worked today and the hubbie works tonight so no superbowl here. I hope to sew a little.

That book has always intrigued me- I might have to go hunting for it. I spent Superbowl Sunday working on a project from One-yard Wonders (I'll post soon) and going to a Super Bolt Sunday fabric sale. Then I watched the super bowl :) Christine

The design process can be painful sometime's, can't it?;) But when it comes to you, it's great;)
As for going to the library...I go quite often. It's a great place to get access to ideas and information that would otherwise be prohibited by budget constraints. That, and alot of times, once you read a book, you're done with it.
Anyway, love the dolly stuff you are doing;)
