My quilty weekend

Yesterday I went to my brother's house and quilted with my sister-in-law.  We had a good time while my brother worked on putting together model cars.  It was a very crafty day.  I also had a fantastic olive burger and onion rings for lunch.  (They know the BEST places to eat!)

First, I finally put the last two borders on the quilt for the hubby's high school friend and his wife.  The light (tan) border was supposed to be skinny red/tan triangles, but after an hour of my mom and I fussing over how to get it right, we were still scratching our heads and had wasted a whole chunk of icky fabric trying things and I gave up.  It sat in the sewing room glaring at me for weeks.  I was glaring back because I wanted those triangles.  It's going to the quilter soon and I hope she can work some wonders with the white space.

Then I moved on to a new project.  A bag using the "Cheep Talk" fabrics I ordered from Connecting Threads.  This one is for ME!  I didn't get far before I had to quit because I needed fusible interfacing for the handles/straps and the lining pieces.  I also need a different lining because though I ordered enough coordinating fabric for the bag lining, it's directional, so the birdies would be sideways.  Ack!

Then I started on ANOTHER project.  I've said I'm going to try to make one dolly quilt a month to donate to Santa Claus Girls with a dolly.  I figure I can squeeze the budget each month for a doll and then have about a dozen at the end of the year to donate.  It also helps ease the desire for a new project.  I get to do something new, but it's finishable in a short time, too.  AND, I'm using up leftovers!  The dolly for this one came dressed in a black and white cow outfit, so I used leftovers from the black, white and red quilt I made last year.

This is just the top.  It's from "The Little Box of Baby Quilts" by Jenny Cardon again.  The original was done in green and purple, so this took a little squinting, imagining and sketching to make sure it looked okay.  My brother also consulted.  The black and pink pieces are raw-edge applique which made it so easy.  I haven't decided how to quilt it, but I'm thinking a nice Sunday nap is in order, then baking some peanut butter cookies and maybe it will come to me!  But I do like this one.  I was so worried it was going to be too dark.

It's been a good quilty weekend!

Maybe my momentum is back and I'll have more to show again soon!

You accomplished quite a bit! Maybe with the quilt that was suppose to have red triangles, your quilter can use red thread to do the design. That would still add that touch of red you want.

Your bag is going to be so cute. The fabrics and colors are very bright and cheerful. It will be tons of fun to carry that bag!

The dolly quilt turned out very cute. I think it will go nicely with the cow outfit for the doll. The pink touches really make it sweet for a little girl.

You get a gold star for all the work! ! !

I think the tan border looks just fine. Plus, it's on and you can move on to something new! I love what you're doing with your "leftovers". Your doll quilts are too cute, and for such a great cause. Peanut butter cookies should definitely inspire you on :) Care to share? -Joanne

I'm sure the quilter can work something to make the border what you want. I love the fabric you have for the bag. That's going to be really cute!! Oh and black white and pink is such a great combination. That will be a very lucky little girl! :) Christine

You are going to be having fun all year with that doll project; Bless You! Don't worry; your quilter will add something really pretty in the area you are fretting about. You'll love it! ---"Love"

What a productive week end you had! I like the quilt for the hubbie's friend and I am glad you are done glaring at it. (haha). Your bag is looking cute. ( I never get enough yardage when the fabric is directional).
The most recent of your doll quilts is adorable. They just keep getting cuter. I probably caqn't keep pace with you, but I am going to try to get at least a couple done.
All of that and you are baking too. I need a nap just reading about all you got done.
Keep stitchin. Beth

That's a fantastic result! You have sewn up a storm. Both quilts look really good and I can't wait to see the finished bag. I.m sure the quilter can work her magic on those borders. Happy Stitching, Ann :-)

Hi Katie, I have been following your blogs for a while now. I love the doll and coordinating doll quilt project. I was inspired to make a doll quilt for my own little granddaughter (to go with her Christmas doll) after seeing the beautiful little quilts you made last fall. I even used the disappearing nine patch block, which I think was one of the blocks you used. Thanks for the inspiration.

Nope, it's not on the other side of the room. Amazingly enough, I FOLDED IT UP AND PUT IT AWAY! Like I said, it never looks like this... I start a new job tomorrow so I have been home all week and have had some serious time to work on stuff. Now it is all fixed up for the new year! Not only that, I have almost finished my first quilt for 2010- I put the binding on it today so all I have left is the label. So far the new year is looking good- wanna bet I slack off in February? :) Theri
